Comment: U.S. lied to Britain about use of MK77s

Armed Forces Minister Adam Ingram, has admitted that the U.S. lied about the use of MK77s in Iraq.

The Independent reports that in a private letter to Labour MP Harry Cohen, Ingram said, "The US confirmed to my officials that they had not used MK77s in Iraq at any time and this was the basis of my response to you. I regret to say that I have since discovered that this is not the case and must now correct the position,"

In fact, 30 MK77 firebombs, an evolution of napalm, were used by the American 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in the invasion of Iraq between 31 March and 2 April 2003.

According to the F.A.S. (Federation of American Scientists) the MK 77 500-pound fire bomb is the only fire bomb now in service.

During the Gulf War, the Marine Corps dropped all of the approximately 500 MK-77s used in the Gulf War. They were delivered primarily by the AV-8 Harriers to ignite the Iraqis oil-filled fire trenches.

The US has also been accused of using white phosphorous in Fallujah. This is believed to be the reason why US troops removed over 2 kilometres of top soil from the area. Somehow I don't think Don Rumsfeld wanted it for his rose garden.
