Education: Sri Lankan PM pledges mid-day meal for all school children

The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa, has promised that every school child will receive a mid-day meal, if he is elected as the President - "Most of our children are suffering from malnutrition and we need to address this issue as well".

The meal will be based on local products such as rice, which as the Prime Minister explains, will have the additional benefit of addressing another issue - "In that we can solve the problem of paddy surplus and create more jobs in rural areas in connection with this entire project".

Let's hope that in this case, there is such a thing as a free lunch.
