Trademarks: Paul McCartney registers his name as a trademark

Sir Paul McCartney has registered his name as a trademark for use on a wide range of foods and clothes.

In addition to vegetarian items, the list includes permission for the name on meat, fish, poultry and game. Also included is clothing, footwear, headgear and a variety of other goods.

Items that were specifically mentioned were fancy dress, overalls, waistcoats, hosiery, dressing-gowns, bath robes, sports clothing and swimwear.

The application has been made by McCartney's company, MPL Communications Ltd. Anyone who objects now has three months to lodge objections with the Trademarks Registry. A trademark judge will decide whether the marks meet the legal criteria to be registered.
